I am back from an exciting summer that included a learning adventure to Bali. Met with some young guys from around the world that are living and working in Bali while developing a block chain based company providing sustainable energy resources. Pretty cool stuff and fun guys to work with. Then my journey continued up to Singapore becoming a certified trainer and facilitator with the Barrett Values Centre based in London. Incredibly insightful tools for developing values based leadership within individuals and teams. Our Cultural Transformation Tools (CTT) provide such an exciting opportunity for companies to simultaneously increase employee engagement and company wide productivity. Yes, you read this correctly; we can help you increase your employee engagement by allowing them to transparently understand your personal values as a leader while giving them the opportunity to share what values matter most to them with you. This understanding and alignment of values produces with a natural ease an increase in individual and group productivity.

Employees that feel heard and understood show up with a much larger purpose. Employees stuck in a culture of top down assigned procedural directives, that were designed without their input, are predictably far less engaged. A very common complaint we hear is “I do this job daily and yet not once have I been asked how I think we could improve how we are going about doing it”. Kind of crazy right?

In values driven organizations what is clear is the understanding of service to others. The organization has a clarity of commitment to serve the needs of their external and internal customers. How to do things has been replaced with why we do. Information flows freely in all directions. Hierarchical structure is replaced with a far more efficient flat management structure. Fear is replaced with understanding. Customers are engaged to assist in “win-win” process improvement. Turnover is dramatically reduced as the organization is meeting far more of the non monetary needs (values) of its employees. Promotions from within predictably increase over time. Profit draining expense from continued failed top down driven programs naturally drops to the bottom line as engaged employees send upward a steady stream of improvement solutions.

Here are a couple of ways we can get started together. A Leadership Values Assessment (LVA) is a great first step to gaining invaluable insight and deepen your understanding of what you need to do to become an authentic “full spectrum” leader. Additionally the LVA measures Personal Entropy, which is the amount of fear driven energy a person expresses. This indicates how you may be contributing to the Cultural Entropy score of the organization. The Leadership Values Assessment (LVA) is a tremendous coaching tool for promoting self-awareness, personal transformation and an understanding of the actions a leader needs to take to realize their full potential. The LVA compares a leader’s perception of his or her operating style, with the perception of their superiors, peers and subordinates. Emphasis is placed on a leader’s strengths, areas for improvement, and opportunities for growth.

The Cultural Values Assessment (CVA) is the flagship tool of the Barrett Values Centre. Imagine being able to get a comprehensive diagnostic of the culture of your organization by asking your employees three simple questions that take around 15 minutes to complete. Furthermore, imagine being able to get reports for any demographic grouping you care to list. Over 6,000 companies worldwide have used this report to gain detailed understanding of the personal motivations of employees, their experience within your organization, and the direction the organization should be heading. CVA results can generate deep, meaningful conversations about the purpose, priorities and strategy of the organization and the well-being of all stakeholders. The CVA provides a road map for achieving high performance, full-spectrum resilience and sustainability. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss with you how this highly cost effective tool can provide a valuable starting point for beginning the work of Cultural Transformation within your organization.
